Collage As Reframing & Becoming
Collage has always felt like the ultimate playground for imagery, relationship, and transformation. Long before I fell in love with the bandsaw in middle school, I was obsessed with scissors—cutting images from their original context and giving them a new world within seconds. I could place a zebra head on an excavator without consequence or judgment, and if scissors ever went missing in my house, my family knew exactly where to look.
As my practice evolved, collage became a way to reframe old narratives, interrupt disempowering patterns, and tell mystic stories of becoming. I was especially drawn to characters like Curious George, Bullwinkle, and Dumbo—figures that filled my childhood. Returning to them as an adult, I realized how overwhelming or even unsettling they can appear. By arranging these images in unexpected relationships, I began finding new meanings, new power, and new layers of emotional story.
Collage continues to be a place where memory, imagination, and transformation intersect - a space where the familiar becomes strange, and the strange becomes a source of insight.
I often work with tile as a surface to build my collage fantasy worlds, yet collage can truly live anywhere. I can create on objects of almost any kind—from something as small as a coin to as expansive as an entire wall. Please feel free to let your imagination roam. If you’re interested in a collaboration or commissioning a piece, I would love to explore the possibilities together. I look forward to the conversation.
