The Forgotten Drain

The Forgotten Drain is a photographic collection taken over the past two decades. Inspired by a simple ritual of letting go, these images invite the viewer to look closer - at the beauty, curiosity, and strange elegance found in something most of us overlook. Each photograph becomes a small meditation: a visual reminder that release is possible, that we can choose to set things down rather than hold them inside.

If you haven’t noticed yet—I LOVE drains. As children, many of us were fascinated by the mysterious journey of “flushables,” wondering where things went once they disappeared. Some of us even risked flushing a beloved toy in hopes of solving that secret. As we grew older, those early curiosities often shifted into more complex relationships with bathrooms, places of solitude, hiding, self-judgment, or even comfort. Public restrooms hold their own landscape of meaning for each of us.

So what happens if we reclaim that childhood wonder? What if, each time we stepped into a restroom, we found the drain and intentionally released a negative thought or feeling? Perhaps we could retrain the mind to let go of what weighs us down, instead of carrying emotional sediment, the quiet gristle of the heart and mind.

A drain is never just a drain - sometimes, it’s permission to release.
